  • Adhesion is the pinning of molecules to an interface layer due to intermolecular attraction.

  • Adiabatically: without exchange of heat

  • Dissipation means the exchange of useable energy into heat.

  • Isotropic: having the same properties to every direction

  • Piezos are the crystals which are used in our microscopes. If you apply a voltage on a piezo he will extend while the extension is well known. There are different materials who build a piezo (e.g. quartz, rochelle salt etc.)

  • Tribology is the collective term for all topics within the field of friction and adhesion.
